One of the biggest challenges of Zoo education is the large, diverse audience with different levels of interest and learning styles. Special theme weeks were developed often in conjunction with international animal awareness days to support visitors and students learning and audience engagement. Zoo education is by its very nature interactive and most effective when live.
However we have identified the need for providing thousands of zoo visitors with an educative experience by live interpretation, animal talks and demonstration, guided trails and activities with the help of our rangers and some volunteer guides.
We continued to develop supplemental materials and activities for teachers to practice in the zoo’s knowledge Centre (Bioscope) to present to students before, during, and after Zoo visits.

Butterfly guided tours is an exciting tour conducted in IGZP , Butterfly park which is one of the successful conservation projects of Butterfly conservatory of Indira Gandhi Zoological Park. The butterfly walkers enjoy the sight of the host and nectar plants which has been planted with endemic plants that attracts butterflies to feed and breed. One can watch around 30 species of butterflies flying in the butterfly garden followed by butterflies adaptation and behaviour, and moreover there are above 120 species of butterflies in the zoo. As this is one of the best educational outdoor experiences. We proudly organize Butterfly walk guided tour, as a part of butterfly conservation in Indira Gandhi Zoological Park. Our experts will lead you on the tour to look for these spectacular butterflies. You will learn how to identify common butterfly species found in the area, brush up your identification skills, help on a conservation task, and see a rare species.
To give a brief about this training, this training is for 3 days from 15th to 17th March 2021 which will include theoretical and practical sessions on Captive management and husbandry of reptiles. Due to the pandemic situation, the training sessions held in hybrid mode, i.e. some keepers attended in person and some of them in online mode. These three-day classes deal with the basic biology, captive management, species identification of turtles and tortoises, crocodiles and Gharials, and snakes. The practical sessions mainly focused on Capture, Handling, Restraint, marking and Identification of sexes of reptile species. The equipment used in care of species and how to maintain their enclosure, how to collect their eggs carefully was also explained to the keepers. Animal keepers and local snake rescuers also trained about the snake bite prevention and management. It is pertinent to mention that this is the first National level online training for the keepers. Also, this is the first National level training on Reptiles. With these two firsts, we hope we will be able to make a good start and with that.

Internships are available in most animal sections, as well as conservation, education, marketing & special events. In house training is imparted to students of B.V.Sc. from Veterinary Colleges. These students stay with our Zoo vets and study all the relevant Health Care practices being adopted at zoo. They even get hands on experience in the field. These students during their stay at zoo are getting exposed to various aspects of zoo management including tranquilization, translocation, captive animal behavior, enrichment, nutrition and diet, etc.
