Global Tiger Day – Celebrating Tigers and Their Conservation

As part of the Global Tiger Day celebrations on 29 July 2025, Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Visakhapatnam, organised a Drawing Competition and Documentary Screening focusing on tiger conservation and their vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems.

The event received enthusiastic participation from students across different age groups and schools. The young participants expressed their creativity and understanding of wildlife through artworks based on the themes:

My Friend the Tiger
Tiger and Forests: Together We Survive
Tigers, Tribes and Territories: A Fragile Bond

Each artwork reflected the students’ understanding of the ecological importance of tigers and the need to protect their habitats.

Message on Tiger Conservation

Addressing the gathering, Smt. G. Mangamma, Curator, Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, highlighted the importance of tigers as a keystone species and their role as indicators of ecosystem health.

She also highlighted the presence of Royal Bengal Tigers and White Tigers at Vizag Zoo, which contribute to conservation breeding, public education and awareness about protecting tigers in the wild.

Documentary Screening

The documentary screening further enriched the programme by presenting insightful narratives about the challenges faced by tigers, including habitat loss, poaching and human-wildlife conflict.

Visitors and students engaged with real-life footage and conservation success stories, making the programme an informative and inspiring experience that reinforced the importance of tiger conservation and habitat protection.
